'Cutworks'

at Measham Boats

being stretched from 51' to 70'

Dec 2002 - Jan 2003

The proto-conservatory.

Despite all Su's protests, the majority ruled and the roof was put on in steel and not glass.

Our first thought:

""Will that _really_ fit into a lock again???"

The new tillerman is ready.

At least, once he finds a bigger box to stand on.

Back Home Again

February 15, 2003

Making a very sharp turn into the Smithy Bridge parking lot Hmmm.... wonder if that car's going to budge? Oh dear, is that all ours?
Did we really do this? A conference to decide which end first? I don't think the centre rope ring is strong enough...
All right now..... One more try? Too late now, they've moved the truck.
Some genuinely skillful crane operators moving the boat between the cranes and pivoting it to bring the bow around
in what must have been the most nerve-wracking experience of our lives.
Almost down into the ice ... slowly and the first crunch of the year!
Getting a parking ticket already! And we're off to make the first passage from the Manchester side of the Summit for 2003!!! And finally... back home again.

Our thanks to the BW staff who helped us get our boat back home during some cold and icy weather.

Our particular thanks to the people at Measham Boats who took our home and returned it to us better than ever.

And finally our undying gratitude to Lesley, who took us in and gave us a place to live while the work was being done.

The only problem now is deciding on a new name.... The Black Pig or The Forth Bridge.  We still have one more undercoat:

(the only way to be sure you get paint everywhere!)

and two coats of gloss

(actually, with the new Phil Speight paint, we only needed one coat of gloss)

and a lot more ballast!

(we're waiting till Christmas to finish the ballast)
Our thanks to the BW Pennine Ring staff and the people at Beck&Pollitzer crane comany for not dropping the boat.  It made a big difference in our summer cruising.  Check the other site below for updates and more pictures of 'Cutworks' doing her flying boat imitations.  Four times in three weeks is more than most people want to see their boat being lifted but it was worth it all.
